Finding a good night’s sleep away from home is difficult, and doubly so for travelers who suffer from sleep apnea. Thankfully, the Z1 CPAP machine from HDM makes CPAP therapy a mobile experience. Lightweight, compact and extremely quiet, the Z1 CPAP is a convenient and effective sleep apnea solution for travelers. The trusty Z1 CPAP even delivers sleep therapy off the grid, thanks to its optional PowerShell™ battery pack, which powers a full 8 hours of cord-free therapy.

CPAP Therapy On-the-Go

Traveling with a CPAP machine doesn’t have to be a hassle, because the Z1 CPAP is compact enough to fit in the palm of your hand. You won’t have trouble finding a place for the Z1 in your suitcase or carry-on! It’s also one of the lightest CPAP machines available, weighing in at a mere 10 ounces. Small and lightweight, the Z1 CPAP is also one of the quietest machines available – registering only 26 dBA during operation.

This compact Z1 CPAP might be ideal for travel, but it packs a potent punch and is more than capable of serving as an everyday therapy machine. The tiny Z1 CPAP machine can flow 4–20 cmH2O of pressure, satisfying the prescribed levels for most obstructive sleep apnea patients. The Z1 CPAP also utilizes HDM’s comfort-enhancing Z-Breathe™ technology – a proprietary algorithm that lowers CPAP pressure during exhalation based off your breathing pattern.

Integrated CPAP Battery Pack

The Z1 CPAP integrates seamlessly with HDM’s PowerShell™ battery pack, which can deliver a full 8 hours of cord-free CPAP therapy. That means campers and outdoor enthusiasts can cut the cord confident of a good night’s sleep, so long as the Z1 + PowerShell gets tucked away in their gear. Multi-day excursions are on the table as well, as extra Z1 battery packs can easily be hot-swapped for extended performance.

Designed and assembled in the USA, the Z1 CPAP is backed by a 3–year warranty. It comes equipped with AC power supply, custom USB cable and drawstring carrying pouch. The Z1 CPAP also includes one disposable filter, as well as one HME Humidification Moisture Exchanger (a waterless humidification solution that connects between the CPAP mask and tube, an HME lasts for 5–7 days before it needs replacement).

HDM Z1 CPAP Features:

  • Z-Breathe™ lowers exhalation pressure for more natural breathing
  • Quiet 26 dBA operation
  • Extremely light 10 ounce weight
  • Fully integrates with optional PowerShell™ battery pack
  • Auto-off function puts the display backlight to sleep

Wonderful!

I was really amazed that this tiny CPAP machine is as powerful as it is. I didn't think the pressure could actually be strong enough....but it is. Mine is set at 15 and it works perfectly. I tried it for one night to make sure it was OK before traveling with it, and found it absolutely no problems.

We travel a lot, so this will make packing so much easier.

The one thing I didn't realize when I bought it was that the moisture insert must be changed for a new one every night. However, I slept without the insert, and I had no trouble. My RESMED machine has a humidifier, and I wasn't sure I could do without it...but I had no problem.

It was also sent out within minutes of my ordering it, and it arrived here in NY in less than 48 hours!

I am thrilled with the machine, and was delighted with the help I received by phone from Greg at the Portland, OR site.

The best solution for travel

The Z1 does what it says. The tiny, lightweight machine has made my frequent international air travel much easier, and my onboard sleep much more restful. The Z1 is extremely quiet to anyone nearby, such as the neighboring seat or bed on a plane. The air flow is slightly noisier to me as I use it than my full-size auto CPAP at home, but in no way do I find it disturbing. I highly recommend the heat/humidity passive capture device for overnight airline flights when the cabin air is cold and dry. I'm used to sleep using my auto-CPAP machine, but had no difficulty with the Z1, even though it feels a little different. An auto option for the Z1 would mean I would have no reason not to use the machine for both home and travel.

Nice alternative to schlepping a "standard" unit

I decided to buy the Z1 because of its size. My regular CPAP is considered "portable". I consider the person/persons who think the ResMed10 is portable, to have simply never attempted to transport one. Their idea of "portable" and mine are clearly *not* the same.

The Z1, OTOH, *IS* portable. I can carry all its parts (he power supply, hose, mask and "humidifier") in a small fanny pack which I put in my suitcase.

When I first tested the unit, I put it on my nightstand, 3 or 4" below ear level and used a 20 minute ramp-up time. MISTAKE on both counts--for me. It was a bit noisier than my ResMED, which is nearly silent. On a recently completed trip with the Z1--the first--I put the unit on the floor, and reset the ramp time to 45 minutes. I never heard it, and I readily fell asleep, which I had not done on my first try with the unit at home.

I highly recommend this unit. Worth the price of admission, considering the size and weight of my at-home-unit.

Small, Quiet and Portable

I am a veteran OSA, so I can't speak for newer users. It is really a great size, easy to use, but the Pressure predictive algorithms of the stock machine are a little annoying. Extra pressure when you don't really need it (it is delayed slightly). The company does have a Firmware upgrade for a third algorithm CPAP-3 which emulates my 17 year old machine better. It took me about 10 minutes to upload the update and it was simple.

I bought this machine because of its portability for trips. I didn't buy the battery yet, but did get the 12 volt cord for a long plane ride.

LOVE it! And so does my wife because it is so quiet and so much smaller on the nightstand and great for travel too, which is why I purchased it in the first place!

Lightweight Travel CPAP

I just purchased my Z1 machine for a trip to Europe. Initially I had trouble opening the top to add the filter. Once I figured it out (I wanted to pry it open without breaking), I saw it had been shipped to me with a filter in it. Previously I have traveled with my regular CPAP machine. For shorter weekend trips I leave the water compartment at home, longer take it with me. The Z1 has the humidifier adapter. Everything is so small it fit in my camera bag! Last night I used it for the first time and slept well with no issues at all. It is a tad noisier than the regular machine and combined with my Bistek converter where I have 4 things plugged in (iphone, CPAP, iPad, Zagg) it is not silent. I chose to use the shorter 4' hose for travel as well and so far no problem. The only thing I noticed in the morning was that my nose was a little cold. My regular machine warms the air, this one doesn't. However, the size and convenience is just unbelievable. I am glad I spent the money (self pay, no insurance) to get this small travel device.

Why did it take so long for this CPAP to be developed

This traveling machine is wonderful. I have had three previous full size machines and when I travel it has been an issue. Not so much from the TSA but I either have to take along a separate backpack for the machine or a larger suitecase or a second suitcase for the cpap. Now with this machine it is no bigger than one shoe in the suitcase.

The performance aspects of this Z-1 are very very good. I get a full nights rest from the cpap and it interfaces with my SwiftFX nasal pillow mask. I here a little wheeze noise when i first start to breathe but it does not disturb myself or my wife. i have been using the cpap therapy for 15years now and this is phenomenal. Why did it take so long for someone to manufacture this CPAP device?

Great for Travel

Much easier to pack for travel. Does the CPAP job well. No auto on like usual CPAP, but that's a small trade off. Small enough to put right on bed.

HDM Z1 Travel CPAP Machine

Nice size, works well.

It is noticeably louder than my regular CPAP (Resmed S9).

Would be nicer if there was a travel case

Unbelievable!!!!

I have lugged around heavy, bulky CPAP machines for over 15 years and this little feller is going to totally change my travel requirements. Less luggage and easier carry-on. Great product. I look forward to many years of use!!!!

Z1 travel CPAP machine small and a little noisy

It was definitely noisier than my home machine (Phillips respironics system one). My husband said it didn't bother him but it bothered me a little. Definitely better for traveling than the large machine though. My respironics mask was noisier with it than the resmed mask, so I used my resmed mask with it. I also used my normal sized tube with no issues.

z-1

This baby CPAP performed wonderfully on my recent trip to Africa. the only shortcoming (not a function of the machine) is the lack of a humidifier. In damp or humid air conditions not adverse result were experienced. In particularly dry and warm environments my throat was dry and drinks of water mad the use of the Z-1 comfortable.

The Z-1 is a remarkable machines and I am extremely pleased with its performance.

Z1 Travel CPAP

This device has made travel so much easier. It actually fits in a small portion of my backpack. Its a fraction of the size and weight of my home unit that I used to have to package separately and safetly because we all know how badly the airlines handle bags.

I highly recommend it!
